GASTOWN STEAM CLOCK, VANCOUVER

Built in 1977 to replace a vent in the sidewalk by local clock- smith Ray Saunders. Underground boilers that heat many of the downtown office buildings are now vented through the clock. Sam's painting of the Gastown Steam clock depicts the shimmer of light from the wet cobblestone street.
