Sam loves to combine his passion for painting with travel. Sam has visited every province in Canada, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories (Lougheed and Melville Islands in the High Arctic), most of the USA, 17 countries in Europe, Bermuda, Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, India, Nepal and China. Above image: On location in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The earliest paintings displayed on this website were created during a 2 month painting trip to Gaspe, Quebec.
Sam spent a summer working for Parks Canada looking after Schooner Campground in Pacific Rim National Park providing First Aid, collecting fees and maintaining the campground. The above image is the view from the cabin provided by Parks Canada. Sam keeps returning to this magical place.
In 2019 Sam volunteered teaching art to indigenous Mayan children in Guatemala for 3 months for his favourite charity: Project Somos. Truly an experience that touches deep within one's heart and soul. The look of absolute joy on the little girl's face as she explores finger painting for the very first time tells the whole story. Throughout the pandemic Project Somos has provided a food bank and support to the local community and is once again providing education for impoverished children. The latest good news is that the school now has over 100 students enrolled as of January 2022. To learn more or to support please visit: www.projectsomos.org
Sam has hiked the local mountains, the West Coast Trail, canoed the Bowren Lake Circuit, cycled the Gulf Islands and trekked through the Himalayans in Nepal. He has run the marathon, earned his 'Queen Scout', pilot license and received his black belt in Okinawan karate. He enjoys the sport of motorcycling and once rode his collector motorcycle across Canada. He maintains his home and private studio in Vancouver's South False Creek close to Granville Island.
